Sound check suddenly gave a taste of what was to happen Taylor P. Collins' band came out and did tight soul band parts and balanced the microphones. It was so good that the forming audience applauded. The alto saxophone player gave us a dismissing wave like "That's nothing, just wait" as they went off stage. Ten minutes later the whole Taylor P. Collins Band came out and began the festival with the traditional instrumental number. Within seconds they were hot. People began hurrying to their seats. After only a single number Taylor P. Collins came to the stage and proceeded to deliver a smoking blues and R&B performance. What a great voice and what a great band! If they wanted to make people sit up and take notice they sure succeeded. Taylor has a full rich lead voice and is a seasoned veteran without exaggerated stage mannerisms. Her deep rich voice was comfortable with material from deep blues to R&B to jazz. And her band was as tight as can be with all the material. With soloists at every position, the band had lots of varied interest. The band was Eric Hayslett---bass/music director; Jason McIntosh---drums; Pamela Charlles Arthur (PammaJamma)---keyboards; Rich Cravalho---guitar; Diana Tucker---all saxes & flute/leader-coordinator for First Ladies of Horn; Kristen Elizabeth Strom---tenor saxophone; Ellen Seeling---trumpet; Chuck Contaxis---congas/percussion. What a great band! I want to see Taylor P. Collins in a more intimate setting and in a longer stage show. A great opening act set the bar very high for all the following bands.
